First Dancing Superstar - A legend called Bhagwan Dada

Article By - Sudhir Pai

Today as I woke upto chirping birds and monsoon rains looking out of my window at dark skies and sipping my early morning coffee, a beautiful song was been played on FM radio (Bholi Surat Dil Ke Khote).

And my mind travelled back in 1950s Bombay.

Bhagwan Dada (Born 1913) was best know for his social film Albela (1951) and the hit song "Shola Jo Bhadke"

Bhagwan Dada was born as Bhagwan Abaji Palav in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. he was son of textile mill worker but even as a child always had big dreams of entering in film industry.

Starting with small roles and low budget film, he hit the jackpot in 1951 by producing and acting in Film called Albela.

After that, unfortumately, he did not give any hit films and had to sell his 25 rooms sea facing bungalow and live last days of his life in complete poverty and 1 room kitchen in Dadar.

To know more about Bhagwan Dada, google him, YouTube him.
