Vikas Das - Engineer quits job to work with tribals

VAT VRIKSHA (Sanskrit word for Banyan Tree), an social enterprise started by Vikas Das, who left high paying engineering job to do something meaningful in life and create a positive impact on lives of tribal community struggling to live a dignified life.

Vat Vriksha helps tribal women with almost zero formal education to design and run small enterprises.

At age 28, after working long hours from cubicle of MNC, he was wondering whether he is going to repeat this schedule his entire life making MNCs richer and richer. After deep introspection and self analysis, he decided to finally quit his comfortable high paying job and decided to work with tribals.

A trip back to Bhubaneshwar decided what he will ultimately do with his life.

Vikas decided to dedicate his life for upliftment of tribal areas in naxalite infested areas like Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

His social enterprise Vat Vriksha is based on concept of Vasudhev Kutumbhakam, which means, the whole universe is my family. He recalls an incident from childhood, when tribals were not allowed to enter temple as they were considered inferior and impure. This hurted him a lot and he decided to do something about it when he grows up.

Vat Vriksha is built on solid foundation of ethics and integrity to provide dignified life to tribals in a way of basic education and entrepreneurship !
