Story of Ritesh Agarwal

Ritesh is the founder and CEO at OYO Rooms. He was selected for the 20 under 20 Thiel Fellowship which makes him one of the very few Indians to have been shortlisted. He started working early in his life at the age of 13 and by 18 he was building OYO Rooms.

There is more to the unkempt looks of Ritesh Agarwal, 21-year-old founder and CEO of OYO Rooms, which one might find unusual of his age and accomplishments. Sporting dishevelled hair, shabby beard and muddy shoes, Agarwal started with coding software at the age of eight, becoming a part of a global annual forum for improving science in Asia, authoring a book on top 100 Indian engineering colleges, starting a consulting firm for foreign companies entering India, launching Oravel Stays, an Indian clone of US-based online lodging service Airbnb, dropping out of college and becoming the first Indian Thiel fellow to pivoting Oravel Stays to OYO Rooms, a branded network of budget hotels while he was just 19. What he is now building upon is a globally disruptive idea in accommodation and hotel industry.

Ritesh Agarwal who is merely 23 years old, has certain awards and credentials to his name, some of which are:

–  Forbes “30 under 30” in the consumer tech sector
–  Top 50 entrepreneurs in 2013 by TATA First Dot powered by NEN awards
–  TiE-Lumis Entrepreneurial Excellence award in 2014
–  Business World young entrepreneur award

3 steps of getting a dream job

If you are looking for getting a dream job, then you need to take out time to think, plan, strategize and take intelligent actions.

During my various coaching sessions with job seekers and their subsequent success in getting a dream job, I have come to conclusion that below 3 steps can help you land in your dream job:

1) Clarity:

We should be very clear in terms of job profile and salary. This is first essential step. I mean the candidate has to be 100% crystal clear as to what exactly is he expecting out of the job he / she is going to do.

With increased number of options, it is very natural to feel excited to make an attempt to all available options. This is biggest mistake a job seeker makes while searching a dream job and often land up in a boring job and get stuck there and remain frustrated throughout the life.

Be very clear as to what are we expecting out of the job.

2) Create an online resume:

Everyone will send a resume. But you can be better than that. You can create a personal website. Make it look very professional. Showcase your enthusiasm. Show your creative side.

It will only send a positive message to recruiters that you are not only a go getter but also a creative person.

3) Brush up LinkedIn profile:

A professional LinkedIn profile is must for those who are looking for getting a dream job. It is also a valuable resource for those who are trying to search a perfect candidate for their job vacancy.

So, it is very essential to brush up your LinkedIn profile on regular basis. And your profile must show a pleasant professional outlook.

So, spend a quality time upgrading your LinkedIn profile on regular basis.

Build your business from scratch

As I am sitting and reflecting on my past. Those days of my life as an employee where I wanted to be an entrepreneur. To be independent. To be my own boss.

The journey so far has been an exciting one. The journey so far had it's own challenges. There were ups. There were downs. There were moments of uncertainity and frustration. Today, I am going to share some experiences of my entrepreneurial journey which I regularly share in my individual counselling sessions and group seminars.

When you decide to start your own business, there will always be a mixed feeling. Feelings of fear and excitement. It's a lonely journey. A journey into uncertainty with unlimited possibilities.

Larry Elison often used to say - Building Oracle is like solving a maths puzzle.

Even though, our ultimate aim is to succeed, at initial levels be prepared to fail and experience setbacks. Failure is a part and parcel of the process of success. As an entrepreneur, I have hit ground zero a couple of times but I don't think I am alone in this ordeal.

Mike Adenuga, second richest man in Nigeria and owner of successful telecom company Globacom had his share of failures. He personally lost $20million. But that did not stop him. He re-built his company once again.

All I wanted to say is - Never Give Up!

To help new entrepreneurs to start business or veterans to run their businesses profitably, I do business consultancy, individual counselling and group seminars.

I have also written 2 books :

1) Think Like A Winner
2) Live Your Dreams

Operation Clean Ganga - Guddu Baba

Source  : DNA
Writer  : Shivani Sinha / Edited by Swati Bhasin

First man to rise up to the cause

Forerunner of the ‘Save Ganga’ campaign, Guddu Baba sat on a 48-hour long fast at G.P. Circle in the city on December 31, 1998  after his encounter with the man bathing in the sewage. He wanted to draw the attention of the authorities in slumber. “I shared this incident with Captain Vijay Bahadur, instructor of flying club, Patna. We wrote to all the higher officials of Patna appealing them to work for Ganga,” he remembers.

His slogans –  “Ganga ki dhara ko wapas lao” (Bring back the clean currents of Ganga), “ Ganga putro jago” (Wake up! Oh, son of Ganga), “ Ganga ko pollution free karo” (Free Ganga of the pollution)– and his initiative of cleaning  Ganga soon found resonance among Patnaites. It was for the first time that a common man had come out to save Ganges. Guddu Baba was already featuring in headlines.

'Compassionate capitalism' urged for India

Indian entrepreneur Narayan Murthy, founder of global software giant Infosys, says "compassionate capitalism" is the only solution to poverty in the country.

Narayan Murthy: One of the world's most admired business leaders
Debate is currently raging throughout India over the economic policy of the new government, following a lukewarm media response and stock market jitters.
But Mr Murthy told BBC World Service's The Interview programme that more had to be done to drive entrepreneurial activity.
"We believe that if India has to solve its problem of poverty, we have to embrace capitalism, ensure that jobs are created, and make sure that market-driven policies are accepted," he said.
"However, to do that, the people who are the evangelists of capitalism, must conduct themselves in a manner that will appeal to the masses."People must be able to relate to them easily. They must lead a normal life, a simple life, and people must be able to say, 'look, if these jokers can do it, we can do it better'."

Success Story of Balaji Wafers

Source : Share Your Story
Writer  : Sahil

Journey from Astron Cinema to 1000 crore company

Chandubhai Virani started his career by selling snacks at the Astron cinema, Rajkot. Four decade later Balaji wafers and namkeens hold a 65% market share in 5 states.

Slowly after moving from the cinema, he along with his brothers started making wafers in house. They would make wafers and he would go on his Luna to the local shops to sell them.

He was very selective about the potatoes that he used. Balaji wafers were then sold in a transparent bag while its competitors were already much large in terms of marketing. Slowly in the 90’s the industry saw growth. The production grew from 1000kg of potatoes to 5000 kg per hour and thus a desi brand was giving tough competition to the foreign brands like Frito lay.

Mind v/s Consciousness

Article : Sudhir Pai

Mind and consciousness are two different sides of the coin.

We can have an Hindu mind. But there is no Hindu Consciousness.
We can have a Jewish mind. But there is no Jewish Consciousness.

Pure consciousness is a No Mind Zone. Pure Silence. Total Bliss.

Meditation is all about moving from Mind to Consciousness. Mind is like a river. Ever flowing. Ever Changing. Consciousness is absolute. A silent witness. Mind is limited by time and consciousness expresses itself in timelessness.

Mind can be explained. Consciousness can only be felt and experienced. Mind is like a fire. If not handled properly, mind kills.

Consciousness heals. It soothes. It is relaxing.

Friedrich Nietzsche has declared that God is dead. God is not dead on the contrary, what has happened is that matter is dead. Matter has been found not to exist at all. This insight into matter brings modern physics very close to mysticism, very close. For the first time the scientist and the mystic are coming very close, almost holding hands.

Eddington, one of the greatest scientists of this age, has said, "We used to think that matter is a thing; now it is no more so. Matter is more like a thought than like a thing."

Existence is energy. Science has discovered that the observed is energy, the object is energy. Down through the ages, at least for five thousand years, it has been known that the other polarity the subject, the observer, consciousness is energy.
